Cymophane, Mandroinanga, Madagascar. This mineral is a variety of chrysoberyl, an aluminium and beryllium oxide, often known as ‘cat’s eye’. This specimen, measuring 2.5 × 1.5 × 1.5 cm, comes from a lot in the Boubée collection which I purchased in 1981 following a compulsory liquidation. The 1959 label accompanied this lot; it is not included with the mineral.
