Lazurite, Sar-e-Sang mine, Badakhshan, Afghanistan. This is a 9mm-diameter crystal of the most beautiful blue, set in a 5.5 x 2.5 x 1 cm white cipolin matrix, with a tiny trace of iron pyrite – not gold!! Known as lapis lazuli or lazurite, it is a sodium and calcium sulphoaluminosilicate.
